Do you suffer from persistent hip pain with every step? Has the walking stick become your constant companion and do everyday movements such as putting on shoes or socks cause great difficulty? If conservative therapies no longer provide sufficient relief, a hip prosthesis - i.e. an artificial hip joint - can improve your mobility and give you a new quality of life.
At Sportklinik Hellersen, over 400 hip prostheses are implanted or replaced every year. For optimum results, we work together with leading international manufacturers of hip prostheses to offer each patient the most suitable treatment.
Causes for the use of a hip prosthesis
A hip prosthesis is usually necessary if the natural function of the hip joint is permanently impaired due to illness or injury.
Common reasons for an artificial hip joint
- Advanced osteoarthritis
- Fractures of the neck of the femur
- Inflammatory rheumatic diseases
-
Necrosis of the femoral head due to impaired blood flow to the bone
Minimally invasive surgery: Gentle use of the hip prosthesis
At Sportklinik Hellersen, hip prostheses are implanted using a minimally invasive surgical procedure in which muscles and tissue are largely spared. This modern, tissue-sparing procedure ensures a faster recovery and significantly reduces the need for painkillers compared to conventional techniques. The most important thing here is to spare the muscles, which is important for quick and lasting mobility.
Our Specialist Physicians also use the proven Cell Saver system: during and after the operation, the patient's blood is collected, purified and returned to the body. This means that the use of foreign blood is avoided as far as possible when implanting a hip prosthesis.
How long does a hip prosthesis last?
The lifespan of a hip prosthesis is generally 15 to 20 years. Current data shows that around 80% of implants are still fully functional after this period and do not require a new operation. Thanks to advanced materials and optimized implant technologies, many of our patients today even achieve a significantly longer durability of their hip prosthesis.
