Personalized room design and a specialized alarm system ensure care and orientation tailored to residents’ needs
A hospital stay often poses a particular challenge for people with dementia. The unfamiliar surroundings, new routines, and unfamiliar faces can lead to feelings of uncertainty. To offer these patients and their families the highest level of safety and comfort, the Sportklinik Hellersen has set up special rooms for affected patients and tailored its care concept specifically to the needs of people with dementia.
The goal is to make the hospital stay as pleasant and supportive of orientation as possible. The focus is not only on medical care but, above all, on the patients’ well-being. At the same time, family members should have the assurance that their loved ones are in the best of hands at the Sportklinik Hellersen. The mission of the Sportklinik Hellersen is to provide people with dementia with comprehensive, safe, and needs-based care, while giving family members a sense of security and trust.

The new rooms can be individually tailored to patients’ personal needs. Small, strategically placed orientation aids create a familiar atmosphere and make daily life in the hospital easier. “For these patients, even a small change in their surroundings can have a major impact. Orientation aids such as a nightlight, a clock with the date, or clear pictograms on the doors provide a sense of security and help alleviate anxiety. Our goal is to create an environment where patients can find their way around as easily as possible and feel comfortable,” explains Jessica Miozga, dementia coach and registered nurse at the Sportklinik Hellersen.
Another key component of the concept is a special sensory alarm system in the rooms. It helps nursing staff respond quickly when patients leave their rooms, thereby contributing significantly to the safety of those affected.
With the new rooms for patients with dementia, the Sportklinik Hellersen underscores its commitment to combining high-quality medical care with particularly compassionate and personalized care. After all, these individuals, in addition to excellent medical treatment, need one thing above all else: orientation, safety, and an environment where they feel well cared for.
