Sportklinik Hellersen at the Women's European Championships in Switzerland

Sportklinik doctor Dr. Tobias Schmenn looks after the national team as team doctor

When the UEFA Women's European Championship 2025 kicks off in Switzerland today, Wednesday, July 2, medical expertise from the Sauerland region will also be at the start: Dr. Tobias Schmenn, specialist in orthopaedics and trauma surgery at the Sportklinik Hellersen in Lüdenscheid, will be accompanying the German women's national team in his role as team doctor.

Dr. Tobias Schmenn has been looking after the DFB women's team since November 2021 and was already able to accompany the 2022 European Championship in England and the 2023 World Cup in New Zealand and Australia in this role. Now he is once again part of the medical team at one of the most important tournaments in international women's soccer. He will be supported by his colleague Carsten Lueg, who also worked at the Sportklinik Hellersen for many years. While Carsten Lueg will provide medical support for the team in the first group matches, Dr. Tobias Schmenn will join the team for the third preliminary round match and - in the best case scenario - will remain with the team until the final on 27 July in Basel.

"I'm delighted to be part of this special tournament and hope to be able to accompany the team as far as possible - ideally all the way to winning the title. Of course, it's important that the players are in top shape," says Dr. Tobias Schmenn. The Sportklinik Hellersen is proud to once again contribute its medical expertise on the international stage - impressive proof of the clinic's high level of expertise in sports medicine.

It is the 14th European Women's Football Championship. A total of 16 teams are taking part, divided into four groups. The German team will face Poland, Denmark and Sweden in preliminary round group C. The opening match against Poland will take place on Friday, July 4, at 9 p.m. in St. Gallen.
