The Inclusive Sports Community relies on the Sportklinik Hellersen for targeted competition preparation
This year, the Inklusive Sport Gemeinschaft (ISG) from Lüdenscheid is once again fully committed to preparing for the AOK company run. The group is once again competing to represent the Johanneswerk Wohnverband Märkischer Kreis in a sporting capacity. They will be supported by the sports medicine team at the Sportklinik Hellersen. The aim is not only to optimally prepare the participants for the run, but also to check their health suitability and resilience.

“Carrying out the stress test enables us to assess the participants' performance,” explains Dr. Ulrich Schneider, Head Physician at Sportmedizin Hellersen. As part of the sports medicine examination, blood pressure, pulse and resting and exercise ECGs were measured, among other things. The diagnostics were supplemented by spiroergometry and lactate measurement - both important components for assessing endurance performance.
“The ISG come to us every year with great motivation - that shows how seriously they take their preparation,” says Stefan Krakor, sports therapist at the Sportklinik Hellersen. “The regular sports medical examinations in particular allow us to assess the level of training and provide the athletes with targeted support.”
Taking part in the Lüdenscheid AOK company run is a key sporting event for the ISG, but it is only one part of the inclusive training group's extensive commitment. “The athletes are also active in the inclusive sports scene - including the Special Olympics,” explains Jens Kuhn from ISG, adding: "We are taking part in various championships this year, including the state athletics games in Wesel. Many of them are therefore not only at the start of the company run, but are involved in sport throughout the year."
In addition, the ISG athletes also take part in local competitions such as the district championships. “Most of them have trained really hard, including in cooperation with the LG Lüdenscheid athletics club under the direction of Hannes Riedel,” explains Jens Kuhn.
The ISG is an independent rehabilitation sports department within the Friends of the Johannes-Busch-Haus association. Under the direction of Jens Kuhn, it offers sports activities for people with mental disabilities and mental illnesses - including soccer, athletics, running/walking groups, table tennis, hiking and recreational sports.
